Another Threat To Our Aquifer

The Waterford Group / Law Crushed Stone Quarry, has applied to expand their operation in Wainfleet. Local residents should review the link below, as this quarry is also on the Onondaga Aquifer!​

In accordance with the provisions of the Planning Act (under Section 22), this notice is to advise that MacNaughton Hermsen Britton Clarkson Planning Limited on behalf of Waterford Sand and Gravel Ltd. have submitted applications for Regional Official Plan Amendment, local Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment to Niagara Region and Wainfleet to expand the existing Law Crushed Stone Quarry.

Location

The amendment affects lands legally described as Part of Lots 6 and 7, Concession 2 and Part of Road Allowance between Lots 5 and 6, Concession 2, Township of Wainfleet, Region of Niagara. The lands are generally north of Highway 3 between Graybiel Road and Biederman Road.

Purpose and effect of the application

The Regional Official Plan Amendment will consist of text and schedule changes to add the subject lands to Section 13 (site specific policies) of the Regional Official Plan in order to facilitate the expansion of the existing quarry.

The applicant has also filed an application for a Category 2 (Below Water Quarry) – Class A Licence to the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry under the Aggregate Resources Act. The total area to be licensed is 72.3 hectares, of which 51.2 hectares is proposed for extraction.

The Planning Act requires that all complete applications be processed. The application will also be circulated to prescribed agencies for technical review. No decision has been made regarding this application.
